The Days of Reflection – Day 6
Focus on the Positive
We’ve all had a lesson that doesn’t quite go to plan. At least with experience they (usually) become less frequent as we learn to spot the signs of a lesson going off track and downhill. However, they still happen and it can feel quite defeating.
Regardless of how bad the lesson went it is important to keep a positive outlook. Here are a few things that I do to keep me smiling when times are down.
- Discuss the lesson with a colleague to see if they can give insight to how I can approach the lesson/group next time.
- I force myself to think of 2 positives to every negative that I lost for the lesson. This ensures I don’t lose sight of those students working hard.
- Take a break. When you return to your thoights you might be able to view the lesson from a different perspective and envision a more positive pathway forward.
- Remember: there will be a solution
- Don’t be afraid to ask for help if you think it is required. If a group are not responding to you as an individual consider enlisting the help of colleagues who can provide a united front.
