The Days of Reflection – Day 7
Activity Setting
Setting high expectations is one thing all teachers do. We can expect high standards in terms of behaviour and effort. Sometimes students fall short but we should always keep the bar high. As teachers we have the ability to guide our students and help them keep on track.
When we plan Lessons, expecting success could ensure you plan creatively and for a productive work environment.
One thing you should consider when planning activities for your lesson is:
What does success look like for this class?
If you are planning for students to master a skill: repetition may serve as the most suitable activity format to allow students to gain confidence and develop practicing the skill.
If you are planning to develop extended writing: an open ended task might serve as a more appropriate task.
I am not suggesting that the above examples are the only ways to plan for success but should either be implemented then they could create a completely different lesson dynamic. However, in both lessons students could be successful.
Reflecting on my previous post about setting appropriate objectives, the activity set should always link back to the overall context of the lesson.
Over the next week I am planning to use the examples written above and reflect on the lesson success. Watch this space.
